Evidence & Description Conflict Resolution Study in Grade 5

Rationale This demonstrates my experience in language as power and agency. It utilizes a social, cultural and historical lens through which students explore inequities, bias and differing viewpoints while investigating complex moral and ethical issues and conflicts. They explore possible restorative justice outcomes.

Conflict Resolution Study

I supported students learning in authentic, real world concepts about conflicts which affect all members of society. Students to be able to analyze conflicts, define them, and understand their options when facing conflicts to make the most effective decision in response. This unit  supported students' ability to influence their lives and those of other community members around them.
Based on the readings of several novels, students
  1. Identified feelings, conflicts in the world, and vocabulary about conflict
  2. Analyzed conflict, assess them and  gave reasons to for positive or negative outcomes
  3. Defined conflicts by their characteristics
  4. Demonstrated through role plays multiple ways to mediate conflicts
  5. Documentation and analyzed of their personal conflicts within the context of their own lives and their behavioral choices
  6. Looked at past and current conflicts to developing empathy and appreciation of differences
  7. Examined critically how media portrays conflict by questioning and analyzing the frequency conflicts occurring and typical solutions by creating and analyzing data in a bar graph
  8. Demonstrate overall learning by developing historical narratives that focused on a global problems of poverty, slavery, or war etc. They researched the realism in the narrative by researching historical facts from the historical context and embedded a variety of conflicts, solutions, and outcomes.

Conflict Resolution Character Pictures
Students created images of main characters from their historical narratives incorporating emotive words about the conflicts within the image.

Students created many diagrams defining and solving conflicts.

Conflict Resolution Study
Students developed a conflict resolution study by collecting data on frequency of abuse in movies and the frequency of strategies used to solve those conflicts. The data was grouped in a chart and analyzed.
